The mesonet station KGLX Mississippi Canyon 724 measured a thunderstorm wind gust of 53 mph or 46 knots.

Wider weather episode

Following on the heels of a cold front that moved through the local area on May 25th, yet another cold front came moving through. The LIX sounding showed elevated instability. It was only in the coastal waters where that instability could be utilized by storms. Severe winds were observed at various coastal sites.
