Event narrative

Fields and farm access roads were flooded in eastern Columbia Township as a result of 3 to 6 inches of rainfall during the overnight and early morning hours. A small creek overtopped a portion of 82nd Ave NE and flooded portions of a nearby farm yard.

Wider weather episode

A strong upper low, and the associated negatively tilted trough, led to the development of severe thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening of May 8. These storms persisted into the morning of May 9, producing severe wind, hail and tornadoes.
