Wider weather episode

An area of low pressure tracked from the Mississippi Valley into the Ohio valley on May 6 with the associated warm front lifting north from South Carolina towards the Virginia/North Carolina border. The main low occluded during the day with a secondary low forming in western North Carolina during the evening. Scattered storms developed across central North Carolina during the afternoon, moving northeast into southeast Virginia while interacting with the warm front. A second round of storms developed in association with the secondary surface low late in the afternoon and into the evening in western North Carolina, tracking into southern and central Virginia during the evening.
