Event narrative
An F1 tornado touched down in the Broad Street area near the Bridgeton Middle School in the western Bridgeton. Four foot wide trees were uprooted and twisted in its damage path. Several homes were damaged by fallen trees. Two electrical poles and one chimney showed signs of twisting. Blowing debris punched a hole in the roof of a Broad Street Seven-Eleven. No injuries were reported. The tornado lifted before reaching deeper into downtown Bridgeton. The same complex of severe thunderstorms that spawned this tornado also caused sporadic reports of downed trees and power lines throughout the county. Fallen trees damaged two cars in Vineland. About 35,000 Atlantic Electric Company customers in Cumberland and Cape May Counties lost power. About 1,000 customers were still powerless Monday (17th) morning. It took until Tuesday (18th) to restore power to the last 200 to 300 customers.
