Event narrative
A classic supercell thunderstorm moved into northwestern Andrews County after dropping large hail and causing strong winds in Southeast New Mexico. Winds up to 70 mph and golf ball-size hail were reported as the storm moved southeast across parts of the Permian Basin. The storm tracked across Andrews County where power lines were downed southwest of Andrews. The storm moved through the northeast corner of Ector County then into northwestern Midland County making a beeline for Midland. Golf ball-size hail was reported in the western parts of Midland damaging roofs and autos. Just south of Interstate 20 windows were broken at houses as the storm passed through that area.
