Event narrative

A debris flow of mud and small to medium-sized rocks occurred on Highway 6 on the west side of Parachute as a result of heavy rain from thunderstorms. The road was closed for a couple of hours due to cleanup operations.

Wider weather episode

Abundant monsoon moisture remained over the Four Corners region. This led to another round of showers and thunderstorms across southwest and west-central Colorado. Storms were slow moving and produced heavy rain. As a result of the heavy rain, a debris flow occurred in Ouray County along Red Mountain Pass and on the west side of Parachute in Garfield County.
