Event narrative

Severe (D2) drought conditions persisted over most of Wheeler county through June. Over portions of west central Wheeler County, moderate (D1) drought conditions continued through the end of the month. The cooperative observer at Bartlett 1W reported 0.61 inches of precipitation in June. This was 3.43 inches below the normal of 4.04 inches.

Wider weather episode

With the exception of southwestern Nebraska, drought conditions improved some across the Nebraska Sandhills in June. A large portion of the central Sandhills improved from severe (D2) to moderate (D1) drought in June. Across southwestern Nebraska, drought expanded in June. Extreme (D3) drought expanded into most of Chase, most of Perkins and far southern Deuel counties in June.
