Three birch trees snapped in half during the storm.
Wider weather episode
An area of storms developed along a frontal boundary to the north of the International Border during the early morning hours of the 18th. As these storms moved into northeastern Minnesota from Ontario, they were able to tap into some lingering instability and produce damaging wind gusts as they dropped to the south. Tree damage was reported along the path of this line of storms with most of the reports coming in later in the morning, well after the storms had passed.
