Event narrative

Flash flooding occurred at the intersection of Pack Creek Road and La Sal Loop Road as a result of heavy rain over the Pack Creek Fire burn scar. Water pummeled the bridge and flowed over the road.

Wider weather episode

Monsoon moisture increased across the region as the area of high pressure shifted towards the Southern Plains. The abundance of moisture fueled numerous showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours. Storms were slow moving and produced heavy rain. A debris flow occurred on the Pack Creek Fire burn scar as a result of a large amount of heavy rain in a short period of time which then flowed downstream to impact other areas such as near Moab which experienced some flash flooding. Additionally, thunderstorms produced damaging winds outside of Moab.
