Two areas of severe weather developed during the evening hours. The first area was over south central North Dakota into the James River Valley along a surface trough which moved east. The second area started over southwest North Dakota and moved east along a frontal boundary. The strongest wind gust reported was 79 mph near Medina in Stutsman County, and the largest hail reported was the size of a tennis ball, which occurred near Haynes in Adams County.
