Wider weather episode
The center of the upper-level high pressure remained centered over Colorado on August 11, 2022, while a weak disturbance raced northward through western New Mexico. This disturbance and plentiful moisture focused the greatest storm coverage for areas south of Interstate 40 with more isolated coverage north of Interstate 40. While many of these thunderstorms across the south were robust and capable of producing heavy rainfall, it was a thunderstorm on the Cerro Pelado burn scar in the Jemez Mountains that caused the only flash flooding report of the day.
