Event narrative

Very hot high temperatures occurred across western Pima and south central Pinal counties and caused the High Heat Risk category to be reached. Ajo and Picacho topped out at 110 degrees and Organ Pipe National Monument reached 108.

Wider weather episode

Very hot temperatures 7 to 10 degrees above normal were experienced in the lower elevations of southeast Arizona June 16, with high temperatures near record levels. The Pima County Medical Examiner confirmed that heat was the primary cause of death for one individual found in the desert.
