Very hot high temperatures occurred across Santa Cruz, eastern Pima, southeast Pinal and northwest Cochise counties and caused the High Heat Risk category to be reached. Tucson airport topped out at 111 degrees, Sasabe and Cascabel reached 109 while Nogales Airport and San Manuel hit 106.

Very hot temperatures 7 to 10 degrees above normal were experienced in the lower elevations of southeast Arizona June 16, with high temperatures near record levels. The Pima County Medical Examiner confirmed that heat was the primary cause of death for one individual found in the desert.
