Very hot high temperatures nearly 10 degrees above normal occurred on June 23 with low temperatures in the lower 80s, causing the High Heat Risk category to be reached. Ajo topped out at 110 degrees and Organ Pipe National Monument reached 108. The Pima County Medical Examiner confirmed that heat was the primary cause of death for one individual found in the desert on the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge.
