Event narrative
Buoy 42020 recorded a measured wind gust of 37 knots the morning of August 14th as a thunderstorm associated with a trough of tropical low pressure moving ashore along trhe Coastal Bend south of Corpus Christi.
Wider weather episode
A trough of tropical low pressure developed along the southern edge of a stalling cold front in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico. The circulation drifted ashore south of Corpus Christi and provided much needed rain to much of the Deep South Texas Ranch and Brush Country, with bands of torrential rain across the lower Rio Grande Valley. It also spawned a waterspout and thunderstorm winds across the Lower Texas Coast on August 14th.
