A short wave trough, out ahead of an approaching cold front, crossed the area during the afternoon and triggered showers and thunderstorms along the lake breeze boundaries. A thunderstorm that developed over the Niagara Peninsula slowly tracked southeast becoming better organized and expanding in size. This storm crossed over the Buffalo Metro, then it proceeded to the southeast. Wind damage was eventually reported from this storm in Cattaraugus County. Up until that point, weaker activity had crossed along the Lake Ontario shoreline, resulting in one wind report near Irondequoit.
