Event narrative

ASOS reported high temperature readings ranged from 104 to 115 degrees during the event. The warmest high temperatures were observed on the 28th and reached 115 at the Redding Airport in the northern Sacramento Valley also setting a new record daily high temperature. Cooling centers were made available to the public in Redding.

Wider weather episode

High pressure over interior northern California brought widespread moderate heat risk to the Sacramento Valley with areas of high to extreme heat risk in the northern Sacramento Valley and adjacent foothills. Triple digit temperatures were observed across much of the central to northern Sacramento Valley on July 28th and 29th with the hottest temperatures on July 28th. A new daily high temperature record was set in the area.
