Event narrative

Numerous trees and power lines were downed by thunderstorm winds in the county. Near Iron Gate, one tree fell onto a garage and damaged a vehicle.

Wider weather episode

A persistent hot and moist air mass allowed for high levels of instability in southwest Virginia. A cold front moving southeast through the region interacted with this unstable air mass and formed numerous severe thunderstorms which produced damaging winds.
