Event narrative

Numerous trees and power lines were downed by thunderstorm winds, with most of the damage in the southern portion of the county. Near Healing Springs, one tree fell onto a truck, and in the Cedar Creek area a tree fell onto a different vehicle.

Wider weather episode

A persistent hot and moist air mass allowed for high levels of instability in southwest Virginia. A cold front moving southeast through the region interacted with this unstable air mass and formed numerous severe thunderstorms which produced damaging winds.
