NOS station Shell Beach SHBL1 recorded a thunderstorm wind gust of 44 knots or 51 mph.
Wider weather episode
It was a fairly typical summer-time regime in place with abundant moisture available and warm temperatures expected. Convergence along sea-breeze boundaries sparked off thunderstorm development. It was along these boundaries that a thunderstorm produced a waterspout and severe gusts in marine areas. The waterspout remained off-shore.
