Wider weather episode
A break in the monsoon activity was finally in store for northern and central New Mexico, and this led to much quieter conditions through early September. However, a weak disturbance racing across the central Rockies plus a slight increase in mid-level moisture was enough to generate isolated thunderstorms across the northwest corner of the state on September 5, 2022. With drier low-levels, strong and gusty downburst winds were more common with these thunderstorms, and a 58 mph wind gust was briefly measured at the Farmington Airport.
