Wildfire — Lower Kuskokwim Valley, Alaska
2022-06-26 · Lower Kuskokwim Valley, Alaska
Event narrative
Historically dry fuels prompted the issuance of this Red Flag Warning knowing that criteria would all likely not be met. Given high fire activity in the area and large fire spread, this was verified on impacts based criteria in coordination with the IMET. The fire grew up to 3 miles on many fronts, but they knew what to expect and took appropriate action/safety measures.
Wider weather episode
An upper level ridge of high pressure built over interior Southwest Alaska for June 26th. At the surface was a decent pressure gradient resulting in windy conditions in combination with hot and dry conditions.
