Some of these thunderstorms became severe in an environment of enhanced instability and deep layer shear. Damage was reported to crops, structures, and trees with some of the storms. Estimated 90 mph wind gusts to the east of Barton in Pierce County caused tree damage and grain bin damage, while another area of estimated 90 mph wind gusts to the southwest of Orrin in McHenry County caused significant damage to multiple barns.
