Thunderstorm Wind in Vance County, North Carolina

Trees were reported down on powerlines near the intersection of Martin Creek Road and Bear Pond Road.

Central North Carolina was under a mid-level ridge of high pressure over the southeastern US, while the stronger mid-level flow was over the Mississippi Valley into the Mid-Atlantic states. While there was no defined surface boundary, isolated/scattered storms developed in the mid to late afternoon across the area. Another round of more widespread showers and storms tracked from south-central Virginia into the central North Carolina Piedmont and Coastal Plain in the mid to late-evening hours. Several of the storms produced downed trees and resultant power outages.
