The entire zone started July in Extreme(D3) drought and by the end of the month the eastern half of the zone remained in Extreme(D3) drought with the west improving to Severe(D2) drought. The Truth or Consequences Airport has 0.86 inches of precipitation which was 0.77 inches below normal.

Wider weather episode

Above normal rainfall in late June and July brought some relief to drought conditions across southern New Mexico in July.
