Multiple newspapers reported on an infant that died after being left in a hot car in New Plymouth, Idaho on September 6th.

Wider weather episode

An anomalously high upper level ridge stayed over the region for several days in early September. This led to 2 consecutive days of record high temperatures in the region, with many stations recording triple digit temperatures. There was one recorded fatality from this extreme heat.
