A thunderstorm produced a 60 mph wind gust at Pine Springs as measured by the ASOS.

Wider weather episode

A plethora of moisture was across West Texas, and instability was fairly high. An upper level disturbance/low pressure system approached which provided an increase in lift during the evening hours then a cold front moved into the area. These conditions resulted in thunderstorms that produced severe wind gusts across the Permian Basin and Trans Pecos.
