Extreme drought developed over the northern portion of the area and severe drought developed over the southern portion of the area.

Wider weather episode

Above normal temperatures and well below normal rainfall occurred across south Texas during the month of July. Extreme drought spread across the coastal plains and over much of the Brush Country by the end of the month.
