2022-10-04 · near Edgewood, Santa Fe, New Mexico

Event narrative

A Forest Service employee spotted a funnel cloud near Edgewood around 445pm MDT on October 4, 2022.

Wider weather episode

A slow-moving upper-level low pressure system with abundant moisture interacted with a backdoor cold front sliding southwest through eastern NM to produce widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms over NM during early October. Just enough instability and shear below the larger scale rotation aloft allowed a couple storms to produce brief funnel clouds over the region. A funnel cloud was observed near Edgewood.
