Event narrative

Severe (D2) drought conditions persisted over northwestern Loup county through the end of August. Over southeastern Loup county, moderate (D1) drought conditions worsened to severe (D2) drought conditions by the end of August.

Wider weather episode

Drought severity worsened across most of western and north central Nebraska in August. Severe (D2) drought conditions expanded to all of the central and eastern Sandhills by the end of the month. By the end of August, exceptional (D4) drought had developed over the large portion of southwestern Nebraska.
