August started with Extreme(D3) drought over the east and improving to Abnormally Dry(D0) drought over the southwest. By the end of the month, just the far northeast portion of the zone was in Severe(D2) drought with no drought conditions over the far southwest.

Wider weather episode

Above normal precipitation fell in August across southern New Mexico leading to more drought improvement across the region.
