A strong shortwave punching into the Great Lakes provided support aloft for multiple clusters of thunderstorms to initiate in the presence of ample elevated instability on the morning of 9/21. These storms would go on to produce several severe hail reports across the southern portion of the CWA, including golf ball size hail in Gladwin county.
