Event narrative
Wet snowfall totals over northern Iron County were estimated to be 4 to 7 inches during the event with locally higher amounts near 10 inches. The wet snow combined with north winds gusting near 40 mph at times caused some tree damage and knocked power out to nearly 600 customers. One to locally four inch snow amounts were common over the southern part of the county.
Wider weather episode
A long-duration powerful fall storm impacted much of west and north central Upper Michigan from the 16th through the 18th with damaging winds, heavy wet snow, and some lakeshore erosion and flooding near Lake Superior. The storm and its impacts attracted national and regional media attention with the NWS Marquette staff giving numerous phone and video interviews leading up to and during the storm.
