A weather station near Capulin reported peak wind gusts up to 60 mph.

A potent upper-level storm system moving slowly southeast toward NM on October 23, 2022 combined with a deep area of surface low pressure along the Front Range to produce widespread strong winds across the region. Wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph first developed along the central high terrain during the early morning hours before spreading into the nearby highlands and northeast plains of NM through the afternoon. The highest wind gusts impacted the area around Ruidoso where gusts near 70 mph were reported.
