Intermittent wind speeds of 40 mph were common in Eastern Roosevelt County from the late morning to the late afternoon hours. The peak wind gust of 61 mph was recorded at 12:40 PM at the Big Sky Field Airport AWOS site (KS85).

Wider weather episode

A strong jet stream following a departing cold front moved into northeast Montana. Winds would mix down to the surface bringing strong winds with gusts above 50 and 60 mph.
