Drought — Northern Valley, Montana

2022-10-01 to 2022-10-31 · Northern Valley, Montana

Event narrative

To start October, ongoing drought conditions in the southeastern three quarters of Northern Valley County were in (D3-Extreme) drought while the northwestern quarter of the county was in (D2-Severe) conditions. On the second week of October, the area of (D3-Extreme) drought expanded to the northwest a little bit bringing all but the northern border of Northern Valley County into (D3-Extreme) drought, while the northern border of the county along the Canadian border remained in (D2-Severe) conditions. These conditions would remain the same through the end of the month.

Wider weather episode

Although October saw normal to above normal rain and snowfall for northeast Montana, above normal temperatures and lingering impacts from the past two years of drought allowed the drought to persist or worsen in spots.
