Event narrative

A hotspot was noticed on satellite. Yuma county dispatch was contacted and reported that fire response was seeing smoke and was already enroute to the fire.

Wider weather episode

A grassland wildfire in extreme southwest Yuma County Colorado was noticed around 12:15 PM MDT. Multiple fire departments were dispatched and containment of the fire was achieved at 6 PM MDT. Due to strong winds and low relative humidity values, teams were kept on site overnight to combat flare-ups and hot spots. In total, 3,250 acres of grassland and an old, abandoned building were burnt.
