A strong storm system tracked from the northern Rockies through the northern Plains, producing a wintry mix of precipitation across the region; including freezing drizzle, freezing rain, sleet, and snow. The storm brought the heaviest snow across northwestern South Dakota, where two to seven inches fell in many areas. Local amounts near one foot were reported near and along the North Dakota border, especially in the Lemmon area. Gusty winds developed on the back side of the system, producing considerable blowing and drifting snow, with greatly reduced visibilities at times. Snow amounts further south across western South Dakota were mostly two inches or less; with some freezing rain, sleet, and snow across south central South Dakota.
