Event narrative

The mesonet at KPZZ Ship Shoal Platform measured a thunderstorm wind gust of 38 knots or 44 mph.

Wider weather episode

A slow moving cold front draped across central Louisiana and Mississippi slowly but steadily moved southward through the local coastal waters. A warm and unstable environment was in place ahead of this front. The combination of lift from the front and buoyancy already in place provided a setup supportive for strong thunderstorm winds over various portions of the coastal waters as storms developed.
