A southwest wind gust of 37 knots was recorded at a Citizen Weather Observing Program station on Big Torch Key.

Numerous showers and thunderstorms developed in the moist unstable airmass along the southwestern flank of strong western North Atlantic high pressure. Thunderstorms intially developed over western Cuba, then progressed north to northwest and interacting with several previous outflow boundaries over the western Straits of Florida.
