The southern half of the zone remained in Severe(D2) drought while the north remained in Moderate(D1) drought.

Wider weather episode

Even though the last month of the monsoon season brought slightly below normal rainfall, late August precipitation helped to improve drought conditions across southern New Mexico in September.
