The southern half of the zone started the month in Extreme(D3) drought with Severe(D2) drought across the north. By the end of September, the entire zone was in Moderate(D1) drought.

Wider weather episode

Even though the last month of the monsoon season brought slightly below normal rainfall, late August precipitation helped to improve drought conditions across southern New Mexico in September.
