Event narrative

A vessel was reported adrift exiting the Key West anchorage with two souls and one dog on board. The two souls were presumed lost at sea.

Wider weather episode

Major Hurricane Ian moved north from far western Cuba into the western Straits of Florida. As Ian moved north over the Dry Tortugas and into the southeastern Gulf of Mexico from September 27th through the 28th, tropical storm force winds spread throughout the Florida Keys coastal waters with hurricane force wind gusts occurring mainly west and north of Key West. A total of 15 persons were declared lost at sea along with 5 confirmed fatalities.
