Event narrative

Heavy snow fell during the evening hours of November 12th extending through much of the early morning hours of November 13th. Total snowfall ranged from 4 to 8 inches. An official NWS observation of 7.5 inches of snow was reported in South Bend, IN at 0700 November 13th. The snow was heavy and wet in nature and started to accumulate on roadways overnight as temperatures dropped below freezing. Roads became slick with some slide-offs reported.

Wider weather episode

Lake effect snow showers intensified on the evening of November 12th and continued through the early morning hours of November 13th. The heaviest snow accumulations occurred across portions of north central and northeast St. Joseph County where 4 to 8 inches of snowfall were received. Impacts from the snowfall increased during the early morning hours on November 13th as temperatures dropped below freezing allowing for snow-covered roads to develop and hazardous travel conditions.
