Event narrative

At 730 am AKDT, the Klondike Highway Road Report from the Department of Transportation reported a maximum of 6 inches of new snow at the summit. The next day, the Road Report noted an additional max 8 inches of new snow since the morning of October 26. Snow continued at White Pass through October 26 and the Klondike Highway was closed between 552 am AKDT and 914 am AKDT on October 27 from Skagway to Fraser due to large amounts of snow.

Wider weather episode

A late October system initiated an overrunning snow event for parts of the far N Panhandle as warmer air overran cooler air. Some snow occurred near surface level but the majority of it fell above 2000 feet along the Klondike Highway and near White Pass.
