Significant precipitation deficits over the previous several months and continuing into October yielded severe (D2) to extreme (D3) across portions of far eastern Kansas. Linn County began October with the southern edge in D2 drought. D2 would quickly expand to cover the entire county, with even some areas of D3 drought across the southern half of the county.

Significant precipitation deficits from the summer/early fall months continued into October, with severe drought (D2) continuing and even expanding into extreme drought (D3) for portions of far eastern Kansas.
