Event narrative
CO-OP observer in Harrison reported blizzard conditions with falling and blowing snow. Nearby RAWS mesonet station Montrose (MTRN1) reported winds 35 to 50 mph during this period. Additionally, US Highway 20 was closed through Sioux County for an extended period of time.
Wider weather episode
Widespread winter storm with strong winds across the area led to blizzard conditions developing across much of the Nebraska Panhandle on the 13th. Snowfall accumulations ranged from 6 to 12 inches across the area. Most roads, including Interstate 80, were closed across the Nebraska Panhandle and strong winds continued well after the snow stopped falling leading to extended road closures.
