Event narrative

Severe (D2) drought conditions persisted across southwestern Wheeler county through the end of October. Across the remainder of the county, severe (D2) drought deteriorated to extreme (D3) drought conditions by the end of October. The cooperative observer at Bartlett 1W reported 1.52 inches of precipitation for October. This was 0.91 inches below the normal of 2.43 inches.

Wider weather episode

Abnormally dry and warm conditions continued across western and north central Nebraska in October. Drought conditions deteriorated across all of western and north central Nebraska. With the exception of moderate (D1) drought conditions in most of Sheridan County, all of western and north central Nebraska had drought conditions ranging from severe (D2) to exceptional (D4) drought by the end of October.
