Event narrative

Extreme (D3) drought conditions remained unchanged over the southern third of Arthur county in October. Over the northern 2/3rds of the county, severe (D2) drought conditions remained unchanged through the end of the month. The cooperative observer at Arthur recorded 1.58 inches of precipitation for October. This was 0.20 inches above the normal of 1.38 inches.

Wider weather episode

Abnormally dry and warm conditions continued across western and north central Nebraska in October. Drought conditions deteriorated across all of western and north central Nebraska. With the exception of moderate (D1) drought conditions in most of Sheridan County, all of western and north central Nebraska had drought conditions ranging from severe (D2) to exceptional (D4) drought by the end of October.
