Event narrative

Two waterspouts were observed by NWS employees and trained weather spotters in the vicinity of the Harbor Keys. One waterspout was very narrow and short-lived, while the other was wider, wedge in appearance and lasting nearly 10 minutes. The condensation funnel clouds extended about one quarter the way from cloud base to the horizon. Movement of the waterspouts was toward the southwest at 10 knots.

Wider weather episode

Fourteen individual waterspouts were observed throughout the late afternoon hours oceanside of the Lower Florida Keys. A convective cloud line along the southern edge of the Lower Florida Keys was briefly enhanced as dry continental air moved southwest from the Florida mainland and began to entrain into the cloud line.
